There’s so much information easily available for free right now that most aspiring bloggers struggle to attract enough readers.
The issue? They are writing mediocre content that does not inspire, motivate, or add value.
How to fix this issue? Simple. Write the type of content that others would pay to read, the type of content that provides actionable steps towards solving certain issues, or the type of content that is so engaging as to make one rush for the subscribe button.
In other words, you must be so good they can’t ignore you.
Why Most Content out There Is Lukewarm
Most bloggers share the type of content that’s not worth much because they themselves believe that their content isn’t worth much.
It’s a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, mostly because beginner bloggers often struggle to monetize their blogs. If you don’t know if your blog’s worth any money, you will believe that it’s not worth much to begin with.
It’s a debilitating mindset that often results in one just going through the motion, no longer aiming to provide massive value to others, but rather sharing content in the vague hope of something happening along the way.
Would You Pay To Read a Blog Like Yours?
Be honest. Would you?
Do you want to know the irony of it all? You’re already paying a price. And you are already asking that your readers pay the same price.
You are asking your readers for their time. You are asking that they give up precious minutes of their lives, minutes they will never get back, in order to read your content.
If you yourself aren’t 100% satisfied with the content you share, why waste people’s time by sharing it and promoting it?
This might sound harsh, but the only way to stand out in today’s overcrowded online world is to provide the kind of value that your readers would be more than glad to pay for with more than just their time.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Would I be able to sell this post as a standalone essay or e-book?
- Am I providing the type of insights that could change someone’s life?
- Did I deliver on the promises I’ve made in my headline and introduction?
The content that stands out if the content that over-delivers. The content that stands out is the content that makes most readers think, “wow, I can’t believe this is available for free.”
This principle doesn’t only hold true when it comes to blogging, but also other types of media as well: YouTube videos that are so good they could be award-winning short movies, podcasts that provide the type of insights one only finds about after years and years of experimentation.
But What if I Don’t Have Anything of Value To Share?
I get asked this question surprisingly often, and the cliche answer that you have something unique to share might not provide much comfort.
I’m going to be honest with you. That answer often fails to help because it’s not true. The truth is that the vast majority of bloggers out there don’t have the experience, the knowledge, or the writing skills to write the type of blog posts that others would gladly pay money for.
The good news, of course, is that you can always become such a person.
Think of the most popular bloggers out there. They are usually experts in their field, they are incredibly passionate, prolific, and are more than willing to go the extra mile in order to provide extraordinary content to their readers.
It’s mostly mindset, but it’s the type of consistency of action that took years and years of hard work to show up in the form of a successful blog.
Every blogger can do this, but it requires a lot of dedication and commitment on their part, and they must keep providing massive value even when it seems that they’re not getting anything out of it.
If you want to become a fantastic blogger, look for the type of content that people pay money for, and ask yourself if you could do a similar job for free; if you could provide similar content in terms of quality without asking for anything other than your readers time.
And, yes, this is the reason the game has become increasingly difficult over the last decade or so. The 0.1% of the blogging elite continually does this, which means that better content is always becoming available for free.
Let go of your need to save your best content for later, in order to monetize it or for it to reach more people, and write your best content today. It’s the only way you will stand out in this crowded blogging world.
