What is the secret ingredient to success as a blogger? Is it inspiration? Motivation? Is it the ability to treat blogging as an art or as a business?

The answer is simple. The secret ingredient is strategy.

What are the strategies you deploy to reach your goals, both in terms of audience and engagement and also income?

What is your content strategy? What is your content marketing strategy? What is your networking strategy?

That’s why I decided to share a few creative strategies to help you grow your audience in 2020.

1. Create content with your readers, not just for your readers.

Everyone knows of the importance of writing content with the reader in mind.

But what about asking them what they want to read? What if, rather than relying on the feedback you receive, on the stats of your articles, you were to actively ask them what type of content they’d most like to read from you?

Either by adding polls or simply asking your readers for suggestions, this is not the mark of a blogger who has run out of ideas, but rather the sign of being “reader-centric” to the point of demanding feedback rather than waiting for it.

What if you were to start a weekly series of articles based on your readers suggestions?

What if you were to ask your readers to vote next week’s topic?

Would that make for a more engaging experience for your readers?

You could even take this a step further and give your readers the chance to add their own short contributions to your articles.

This sort of collaborative work is one of the most overlooked content strategies.

2. Re-purpose your content for other platforms and mediums.

Last week I published an article, The Not-So Subtle Art of Being Yourself.

After a couple of days, as more people read the article, I began to notice that they were highlighting a few short lines.

I took these quotes and turned them into social media posts, which I shared both on my Instagram and Twitter accounts.

This is something I’ve done with various types of content as well, discussing articles in my YouTube videos or on my podcast.

Re-purposing your content to share on other platforms not only gives you the chance to grow your audience, but also offers you the opportunity to reach people who like to consume different kinds of content; people you wouldn’t reach otherwise.

You can easily turn a listicle or how-to guide into an infographic, or you can discuss a blog post at length in your podcast.

It all comes down to how much time and effort you’re willing to invest in order to come up with more creative ways of providing your readers different kinds of content.

3. Develop a web of content.

Another often overlooked strategy is to interlink your articles. Like I just did right now.

If you want you want your readers to describe your content as addictive, you’ve got to make it as easy and effortless for them to consume your content.

Providing links to articles about certain topics or ideas within your articles ensures that they’ll end up with a bunch of open tabs, and some of them will even find themselves reading your content one or two hours after first visiting your blog.

But there’s an additional benefit to this: it allows you, as a content creator, to connect the dots.

You can better come up with a content strategy that tackles all the most important issues and topics in your niche.

You can develop a proper plan for creating and publishing articles that relate to your previous blog posts.

Understanding what content you’ve shared in the past and what other topics you need to write about gives you the chance to create a proper strategy in the long run.

These 3 creative content strategies work extremely well together. You can easily repurpose content to share on social media, while mentioning and interlinking said content in your articles.

The same way, you can mention that the content you share on social media is based on your own articles, or you can mention it on your podcast.

At the same time, engaging your readers and making your content a bit more interactive will turn your readers into loyal followers, and this in turn will mean they will do a lot of promoting on your behalf.

Someone’s far more likely to share an article they actively contribute to, even if only by voting in a poll.

Keep these 3 creative content strategies in mind to grow your audience in 2020 and beyond.

  1. Love the idea of using extracts from a post to create graphics for a social media post. Just did one for my latest post but it would be a fabulous way to breathe new life into older content too.

Question for you – the WordPress block editor gives the option to add “featured blog posts” at the end of each post. What do you think of this as a way of connecting to other relevant content – is it a better option than in text links?
