Even though a lot of bloggers don’t have the guts to admit it to themselves, this is the dream. To be able to create and earn a living from your creativity.
Unfortunately, a full-time income requires more than just being creative — actually, it requires more than being good as a blogger.
It also requires being wise enough to realize that popularity online is difficult to monetize because earning money online is a skill in and of itself.
I’ll give you an example..
Here’s the thing. A lot of bloggers not only hate the game, but also those who play it.
They disregard the rules, and they tell themselves life’s unfair because you need to spend a lot of time promoting your content, networking with fellow bloggers, writing brilliant headlines, formatting your posts…
You need to write what readers want to read, and you need to do it in such a way that makes you stand out.
Folks have to read your words, decide they like you, and resonate with what you wrote. They also have to trust you, feel that you are an actual human being, and genuinely want to buy whatever it is you are selling.
We’re all playing the game, whether we want to or not
If you do not want to play the game, if you despise it, you lose by default.
In this great game of life, in fact, you almost always lose by default. If we do not act, we fail. As simple as that.
Now, if you try to rationalize this as you being moral or ethical, then you are setting yourself up to fail.
What you’re actually doing, though, is protecting your fragile ego.
Also, keep in mind that you fail if you blame someone else.
Guess what?
If you want to earn a full-time income from your blog, you’ve got to play the game. You’ve got to enjoy playing it, and you’ve got to learn the rules, then try to bend them as an artist.
You can either feed your ego, or you can feed yourself. Choose.
Also, you need to consider the fact that maybe, just maybe, you’re just not good enough yet. Maybe you haven’t given this as much time. Maybe you need to be consistent for a year or two.
But your don’t want to hear that you’re not good enough. You don’t want to break your own heart. I get that.
The idea is that you can earn a full-time income from your blog, as long as you do not make excuses. Any at all.
If you do what needs to be done, play the game, work your ass off to be better than everyone else, then the money will come.
As they say, first you learn, then you earn.
