Time Management for Bloggers2 min read

It seems to me that time is one of the main things that keeps you from getting things done. Or, should I say, the inability to find enough of it.

Do you have enough time to blog?

These pointers will help you begin the process of regaining control of your time.

Step 1: Are you procrastinating?

The first step to solving a problem is recognizing you have one.

Do you waste time? Do you like to find excuses for not doing what you know you should do?

If the things you do make you feel guilty because you know in your heart that you should be doing something else instead, then…

Well, you know what you should do.

Step 2: Track your time

You probably have no idea where your time goes. Well guess what, someone came up with a simple way to track your time.

It’s called a time log. By simply writing down all the activities you perform and how long they take, you can get a quick feel for how you spend your hours.

Step 3: Set goals

This may seem simple, but if you want to change, you need to aim for something.

The goals should be challenging, but not so difficult that you cannot complete them. Choose the kind of goals that allow you to reach a flow state; the difficulty is just right.

Posting daily may sound like a good idea, until life gets in the way. It requires tremendous amount of discipline and self-motivation, and an uncanny ability to say no to a lot of things.

Instead, I suggest you focus on writing for a set period of time on a daily basis: one hour, two hours…

Focus on your goals, but also put emphasis on developing the habits you need in order to reach those goals. This is something that a lot of people never do.

If you start with the above suggestions, you’ll end up with a profound understanding of how you spend and manage your time. You will gain awareness of the patterns and behaviors that are preventing you from focusing on great writing.

  1. I like what you said about focusing on habits that will help you get to your goal. It makes sense that you won’t be able to meet your goal if your not focusing on habits that will help you get there.
