[Blogging Mindset] Be Real or Get Out1 min read

Don’t try to be something you are not.

This is it. I could tell you to read this sentence, over and over again, and that would be all for today.

If you want people to take you seriously just be yourself.

I see so many bloggers trying to be something they are not and… well it’s counterproductive.

Just be yourself.

Don’t you hate this advice for how accurate and useless is at the same time?

You know it’s what needs to be done, but how?

Also, “you” is a pretty fluid concept, if you come think about it.

But there’s an authentic “you.” A “you” that knows when to say no according to certain goals, a “you” that knows what to say, when to say it, and why say it at all.

Or write it into existence.

Or blog about it.

Don’t fake perfection.

My most popular blog posts are the ones in which I express myself freely about my own weaknesses, failures, and inabilities.

I write it like it is, without sugar coating anything, without trying to make this huge speech about it all.

I am human. I am flawed.

The truth is that the world will ask you who you are, and if you don’t know, the world will tell you. And you won’t like that. Not even a bit.

The goal is to know what to answer when the world asks you who you are, and to be sure and proud of that answer. That is it.

Just be yourself.

Be real or get out!

So true! In it to win it, or what’s the point?!

This is the best advice! I think the time we spend living our respective lives – It’s all worthy! We maybe were taught through shame, so it can be hard to be truly authentic. Along the way we gain courage…hopefully. But you know? Between equal number of years between people, and in any disparity there of as well, years are years. The same 20 years between two or more people is equal in depth, experience. When we share these authentically, then 20 years becomes 40 years of experience. IT IS WORTHY, and so is every human being to share and receive this as wisdom.

Thanks for all you do, Crstian! We are wiser for it!!

      Thank you, Ian!

Well, there’s an authentic self somewhere hidden in all of us. It’s just that we’ve been conditioned by society to raise our hands before answering, so it’s kind of tough to let that self out.

Your response reminds me. Up to 12th grade, we had to raise our hands, get permission and a pass to go to the bathroom. But in college, they say…”you’re all adults. Don’t ask permission to use the restroom…just go! That was…so strange to me…until I did it for the first time…and no one minded at all! No hand raising for permission. To pass. Just do it. LOL

Very very true. Can’t agree more. I remember my most popular blog post is Apology From A Nurse. And I noticed in that post that was just me my own voice pouring my emotions, as if writing a diary as me. 🙂 🙂

Thank you for this. It’s quite timely. I started blogging and 18 months ago and recently have started over-stressing about my tone in my posts. When I relax and let my inner self out is probably when I produce the best work. This will likely be easier to accomplish now because of you. Thank you. 😊

I reckon this could be applied for social media too.

I guess we try so hard to be someone we are not because deep down, we want to fit in so badly. So we do whatever it takes to be noticed and impress people.

I think my most popular posts are both parts of Restaurant Pet Peeve, in which I wrote a lengthy rant about the annoying things I have ever experienced while eating outside. But I don’t want my blog to be entirely filled with angry posts. I guess I rant a lot because I have so much to vent out…

Knowing self, as old Socrates taught, implies distinguishing between the real and fake in one’s self. This grows aligned with mixed up worlds we live in.
I’ve been touched deeply with this post, received it as personal! This settled positively at last. Thank you…

So much common sense, but needs to be said all the same! Thanks for the kick and the motivation to just keep doing my thing. Awesome post!

It’s like you’ve read my mind. Very inspiring, as always.

That is very true- The world will ask you who you are and if you don’t know, it will tell you who you are.

[…] you have it. It caught my eye this morning skimming through one of my favorite blogs, The Art Of Blogging while going through my emails this […]

Being real is the only way. Not only is it dishonest to ourselves but we are being deceiving to others👏

  • Anitaelise

Love this post! It’s a good way to live too.
