[Blogging Mindset] The “Big” Secret

“The secret is in the line.”Charles Bukowski

When you first start blogging, it’s all too easy to daydream yourself into chronic procrastination. After all, you’re not where you want to be, so why not spend a few hours each day thinking up of all the ways in which becoming a blogging superstar is going to enhance your life.

At the same time, there are so many technical aspects, from themes to plugins to formatting, to images, to sharing videos… it’s easy to spend most of the time taking care of such stuff.

Then there’s the sheer quantity of available resources. Just think of how much time it would take you to read all the articles on this blog alone. Then the comments, to get a feel for what folks want or have tried.

It’s all too easy to forget what really matter when it comes to blogging.

What is that, you ask?

The Word

This is it.

We, as bloggers, often forget that we must produce work. We must write. Sometimes, we get anxious about it, sometimes we feel lazy, but the truth is that we must punch those damn keys and add one word after another, and then publish said words on our blogs.

That is it.

The “big” secret to blogging is to write.

To produce so much work, that you do not have time to care if people read it or not, or who reads it, or what they think or have to say about it.

Let your words go. Write them, then let them go.

Abandon them.

Write, write, write.

That is all it comes down to, and I am shocked that so many bloggers focus so little on this aspect.

They either network too much, which translates into spending an awful lot of time on other people’s blogs, or they focus on adding pretty images (a lot of them) or paying a hundred bucks on a WordPress theme…

I know this because I have been there. And I have been overly protective with blog posts, stories, novels, ideas… but the thing is that you will never know how good an idea is unless you release it into the wild, so to speak.

Also, it’s stressful to imprison ideas like this, inside your brain, waiting for someday, not realizing that someday does not exist in any calendar…

Yes, maybe we’re all guilty of judging books by their covers, but ultimately the words contained within matter the most.

  1. Question about how you write. Why do you space out every sentence? Is it easier for the reader so the blog seems longer but in reality it’s just spaced out? Do you recommend more spacing out instead of larger chunks of text like 5+ sentences in a paragraph? Thanks

      1. I meant to say you press “enter” for every sentence you write instead of writing 5 sentences then pressing enter.

So it looks something this this.

Instead of it being a longer paragraph. So I was wondering if that was a strategy you purposely do 🙂

      2. Ah. Yes. Short sentences. Long paragraphs are heavy on the eyes, makes most readers give up halfway through.

Break the text as much as you can.

Also, writing like this ensures that you stay on point, simple, and clear.
