Blogging and Money

Yes, there are bloggers out there who are making a living directly from blogging, by selling courses, e-books, and using various other ways to monetize the traffic they’re having.

But the bitter truth is that it took a lot of hard work to get there.

Those who think the secret is writing generic “content” that does little more than fill up space are quitting in droves or desperately searching for the answer that will get them over the hump.

So… how difficult is it to earn an income from blogging?

There’s a simple test you can try if you are curious: offer something for free. Whether it’s an e-book, a course, or a coaching program, offer it for free, and see how many people are interested in it.

The point is to realize how difficult it is to give something for free, let alone ask money for it.

After all, your blog is a free offering in itself, and if you’re struggling to get readers, then that can also demonstrate how difficult it is to make it in the world of blogging.

The truth is that there’s a lot of competition out there. Tens of millions of blogs. The opportunity is equal with the challenge, of course.

The dream is free, the hustle is sold separately.

If you want to earn an income from your blogging, then you must create a lot of quality content. There’s no way to go around it. To offer so much information, to entertain, to help others connect with like-minded individuals, that a small percentage of those will consider to leave a small donation, buy your books, or enroll in your courses.

After all, readers constantly ask themselves what’s in it for them.

I’d also like to point one other aspect of blogging for money: it’s not a constant income. It fluctuates a lot, depending on the products you’re offering, special sales, and how much work you’ve put into your blog during any given month.

This type of uncertainty is difficult to deal with. You’re not waiting for a paycheck, you’re waiting on the next sale…

And who’s to say when that is going to happen?

Blogging is not easy. That’s why most people quit. Blogging for money? That’s even more difficult.

  1. I would admit, although I blog as a hobby, I also hope it would generate some income. After all, who wouldn’t wanna be successful in something that they love doing?

  2. I am pretty new to the finance blogging world and I am doing it to keep track of my money and spendings. It helps me stay on the right path to being debt-free, as well as forcing myself to try new things. Not really doing it for the money but I love seeing likes and views go up after every post! I don’t know… just something about it makes me happy. Great article! Sure, some extra Benjamins would be awesome but it’s not a necessity for me.
