The Absolute Best 3 Tips for Effective Blogging

There’s usually a right way and a wrong way to do something. That’s just in case you want to keep it simple, because there’s a wrong way, slightly less wrong, slightly better, and so on…

Some ways lead nowhere at all. They only exist in order to provoke anger.

The truth is that if you want to know how to become an effective blogger, then it’s important to read the following words carefully. Your future as a blogger depends on it.

1. Start With the End in Mind

Fans of Stephen Covey will recognize the concept from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

The same principle applies to any persuasive writing, and with a blog it’s applicable to both your big story as well as to individual posts. You need to have a clearly-defined big picture perspective of where you want to go and how you want to arrive there.

You control the narrative by telling stories (otherwise known as blog posts), and, without unnecessarily taking the fun out of blogging, those smaller stories should each have a clear individual point and reason for being. Even if it’s just to make your readers smile on a Monday.

Always, always, and I mean always, remain focused on where you’re trying to end up. Even when the path disappears, you’ve got to remember where you’re trying to go.

2. This Is Not About You

The most compelling way to communicate with your readers is linked to your ability to connect with the emotions, desires, fears, and passions of those readers. And you won’t accomplish that if you focus on yourself.

Identify a true and compelling benefit, connect with the reader on an emotional level, then back it all up with features and logic.

3. Tell Persuasive Stories

Blogging has a lot to do with being able to tell compelling tales. To use words in such a way that a reader can effortlessly imagine what you’re talking about.

The posts you write should make a lot of people want to be your friends, should make strangers living half a world a way feel like they know you somehow.

That’s the power of words, and you must use them to your advantage.

After all, sometimes even heartbeats sync between two people when one of them is telling a good enough story.

  1. I suppose it depends on why you write, what your ultimate goal is. I always liked the quote by Cyril Connolly “Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.”
It’s a bit twee but there you go…

  2. Personal stories of success and even failure, definitely resonate with any audience. For the most part, bloggers are readers looking to hear your success and failures to turn around theirs.

Going along with tip #3, it wasn’t until I stopped writing to my audience as if they weren’t reading, and began including them in the story that my audience started growing. The word ‘You’ is very powerful in blogging and often overlook. Thank you, for sharing…

Any of you reading this comment, read the tips above and you’ll understand more. Enjoy…
