Four Easy Ways to Get More Blog Subscribers

What’s the quickest, simplest way to get more subscribers to your blog?

Think about it.

The absolute easiest way.

Well, to ask them to subscribe, of course.

It’s so obvious it almost makes no sense, right?

And yet there are a lot of bloggers who not only fail to ask people to subscribe to their blog, but they make it difficult to subscribe.

So, believe it or not, you can gain an advantage over your competition by simply making it easier to subscribe.

Here are four small changes that will boost your conversion rate right away:

Make Subscribing a Priority

Yes. You need to add widgets in the sidebar, add links to all your social media, to your e-mail newsletter, to your RSS feed.

Your subscriber list is all yours, as long as you take care of it, which means you should make you subscription options (both RSS and email are a necessity) a prominent aspect of your blog.

And never, ever forget that your list is full of people who trust you with their valuable attention and time.

The Fewer Steps, the Better

After making your subscription options a prominent element of your layout, the next most important factor is decreasing the hassle. Reduce the number of steps and the amount of data it takes to complete the subscription process, and fewer people will abandon the subscription or get distracted by something else.

Dedicated Subscription Page

This one is short and sweet. Create a static page on your blog that urges people to subscribe to your blog

You’ll need somewhere to send people when you…

Ask for the Follow

If you want someone to perform a certain action in greater numbers than they currently are, you need to ask.

It’s a call to action, and the desired action is a subscription.

Many of the remaining installments in this series will focus on different strategies for asking for the subscription in various contexts. But here’s a simple one that most people just don’t do (and I’ve been lazy about myself lately):

If you enjoyed this post, do not forget to subscribe.

If you’re already doing all four of these basic things on your blog, good for you. If not, tweak accordingly.

  1. Totally agree with the making it easy to follow portion, having easy to find follow buttons is a must. Not sure what to think about asking for the follow – a well known youtuber or writer I just listened to said the content quality will gain followers. They (can’t remember who) said asking makes you look desperate. Not sure what to think now… I AM desperate, so maybe I should ask?

    1. Depends how you ask. And when.

Asking at the end of a blog post, after you’ve offered folks some fine writing, that’s great.

By the way, almost every single YouTuber I follow asks for folks to subscribe, to click on that bell button to be notified, and to hit on that like button.
